As part of Abbott Northwestern Hospital’s Campus Revitalization and Allina Health's commitment to delivering whole-person care, the healthcare system is investing in a new Surgical and Critical Care Pavilion (SCCP). The 10-story, 690,000-square-foot SCCP will provide state-of-the-art critical care for the community, replacing the hospital’s existing operating rooms and creating new care environments for patients, visitors and staff. The new facility will be LEED certified in alignment with Allina Health’s commitment to environmental sustainability.

The new bed tower will be constructed in the middle of the active Abbott Northwestern Hospital campus in south Minneapolis. One wing of the building will replace an existing four-story parking ramp on 10th Avenue. Maintaining access to care for patients, staff, and visitors is critical to the success of this project. Detailed planning and communications for all stakeholders and the community is paramount.Ìý

Construction on the enabling work started spring 2023, with the facility's first patient arriving in 2026.

The facility includes:Ìý

• One year of skyways, connectors, and demolitionÌý
• Two and a half years of bed tower constructionÌý
• One year of sitework and interior remodeling of existing spacesÌý
• Nine stories, 30 operating rooms, 200 inpatient rooms, pre/post, PACU, and new entrance lobbyÌý
• Pushing the limits on technology: Interactive Patient Rooms, Super-Clean ORs, robots for supply distributionÌý
• 280,000 Self Perform Work HoursÌý
