The Telecom Meet Me Room (MMR) Building is an essential development in the future of communications at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (Sea- Tac). This building acts as a demarcation point, marking the boundary between where various telecommunications carriers converge in a centralized location and where the Port of Seattle’s management continues, integrating with the existing Communication Backbone Infrastructure System (CBIS). The Meet Me Room consolidates all primary services from data service providers through one central hub, organizing numerous strategies and pathways that have evolved over Sea-Tac’s history.

As technology has advanced, many old copper lines have become obsolete and were left unused. Our research shows that some inactive copper lines at Sea-Tac continued to incur costs for airlines despite not being utilized for over a decade. With a comprehensive upgrade to fiber optics throughout the airport, the Port will manage all internal wiring moving forward, rather than having individual tenants manage their own connections.

±ØÍþÌåÓý¹Ù·½APPÏÂÔØ’s Design-Build team is responsible for providing the building, underground structures, secure fencing, and landscaping on the International Boulevard site across from Concourse A. Given the project’s location within a secure, gate-accessed area, the team established enhanced security measures and access control for the MMR. A designated drive lane and a paved parking lot allow vehicles to pull off International Boulevard for gate control access. The underground structural work involves connections between the existing utility duct banks installed under International Boulevard and near Concourse A. Given the facility’s purpose, it was crucial to ensure reliable power, a controlled HVAC system that could support computer and network equipment, and environmental alarms.

This project reflects a strong commitment to diversity, exceeding the Port of Seattle’s goal by involving 53% Women and Minority Business Enterprises (WMBE), surpassing the Port’s target of 12%. This dedication to inclusive practices highlights the project’s significant positive impact on the surrounding community.
